Willie Bauld played for hearts of Midlothian for 15 years scoring numerous goals winning both the Scottish and League cups as well as the Scottish League,As well as various photographs of Wilie,his career statistics and honours are listed on his wall.
Still rightly worshipped by fans Dickens pays its own tribute to Willie with various pictures of Willie in his hay day as well as a chronicle of Willies life
Local Heroes
Amongst our local heroes are legends such as Dave MacKay ex Hearts, Tottenham and Scotland international footballer who visits Dickens on his frequent visits back to Edinburgh
Ken Buchanan, another Dickens regular who was instilled in Madison square, boxing hall of fame for his exploits in the ring, winning British and world titles.
As well as honouring Steven Hendry ex world snooker champion and Chris Hoy Olympic gold medal Cyclist .
Dickens has also Sponsored Cheryl Valentine who has represented Scotland at the Commonwealth games and has over 80 caps at international level in ladies hockey.Cheryl's Scotland top from the 2006 commonwealth games is on display in Dickens.
Craig Mc Ewan who recently turned professional and has won his first two boxing bouts in America. Craig also represented Scotland at international level as well as various Commonwealth Games.
Craig has donated a` Scotland boxing vest which is displayed beside John Robertson 's 1998 Scottish Cup final top.
We also have Steven Pressley's 2006 scottish cup Final shirt on display.
Alex Marshall who was honoured with an M.B.E early in 2007 for his success and dedication in the bowling world is also featured in Dickens,as is Andrew Oldcorn the golf professional who is enjoying the PGA tour and having a very successful career.
The amazing thing is with all our Local Heroes everyone is an ardent Hearts fan What a coincidence!!!
The 1950’s Corner
The “Golden Years” for Hearts were undoutable the 50’s with the Terrible Trio of Conn, Bauld and Wardhaugh Hearts went on to win the League Cup in 1954 Scottish Cup in 56 as well as the league in 1958.
Freddie Gliddle the captain of the first Hearts team to win the Scottish Cup in 50 years is a regular on Match Days.
In 1954 when Hearts won the league cup the players were presented with a pass from a local cinema offering free,lifetime admission to the cinema.Freddie Glidden recently donated his pass to Dickens and it is on display in our 50's corner.
